Homecoming Hair | New Hollywood Glamour

Hello all!
As promised, here's the first installment of Homecoming Hair.

I tried to come up with styles that were just plain awesome as well as easy to replicate either on yo'self or a friend. This first look features three small french braids along the side of the head and soft romantic waves. It's a bit Veronica Lake meets Rihanna and lemme just say, I dig it.

  • create a deep side.
  • follow the line of the part down the back of the skull, curving slighty toward the ear.
  • section off three small horseshoe shaped chunks radiating out from the ear.
  • Clip the upper two sections up and out of the way.
  • begin to french braid the section closest to the ear.
  • tie it off with a small rubber hair tie.
  • french braid the next two sections.
  • curl the remaining hair.
  • spritz with hairspray.
Tips:
-Make sure the hair falling closest to the face is curled outward from the head. This will add drama as well as keeping it from falling in your eyes.

-With either your fingers or a wide tooth comb, run through the curls to loosen their shape.

-If the braid ends are visible, pin them along the nape of the neck

Pair with a killer smoky eye and red lip. Bonus if you're wearing all black and fierce heels.
You're gonna be smokin'.

Cheers,
Hannah

Shoutout to my roommate Brenly for being such a killer model and a big thank you to Martha for taking these photos.

Homecoming, say what?!

Hello all!

There was a fresh chill in the air on my walk to my 8:30 a.m. class today.

Why did I include the time?
So you'd feel bad for me.

Anywho, the crisp morning air reminded me so much of Homecoming week in high school that it brought on some serious nostalgia. There was really nothing I loved more than getting ready for school dances. Well, for me, getting ready usually consisted of slapping on some eyeliner in the car on the way to the dance and saying a little prayer for dim romantic lighting. The reason for this is I never quite finished my own preparation becuase I was usually helping someone else with theirs. You can chalk it up to my perfectly charming, self-sacrificing disposition, (yeah, right) but in all honesty: I am a sucker for styling hair. It became a part of the pre-dance culture of my little group. Everyone would sit themselves down in front of a mirror and start on their faces while I would march from person to person and coif away.
I loved doing it, so much so that I have continued it here at school, but more on that little later.

Then I thought "Gee whiz! Homecoming's gotta be coming up soon!"
And by gum, it is!

So, for the next few days I will be posting hair tutorials so y'all can feel and look awesome at your dances.

And all you men out there- don't think this doesn't include you! I will also include some tutorials for you because you deserve spiffyness too.

Keep an eye out for the next post!

Cheers,
Hannah

patience

I've been irritable lately.

Little things are getting to me and I feel those ugly strings of venom climbing up my throat, clawing at the back of my mouth, willing themselves into words.
Maybe I'm not sleeping enough. Maybe I'm not getting enough iron in my diet. Maybe more people are cutting me off in traffic than usual. Maybe I'm just plain stressed.
All of this is totally possible. Sure, people can be poopheads and boy, it's difficult to get enough iron, but how much of this is actually in my control? Which of these problems really exist outside of myself? I cannot will myself to be more level headed. Believe me, I'd give up front row seats to Hamilton to be a little less Type A, but alas. I can't lighten my workload and I certainly can't stop anyone from taking my favorite parking place.

I can only control my reaction to life's monkey wrenches.

People's unkindness rarely stems from a desire to be cruel. Sometimes a person will make an offhanded comment that just rubs you the wrong way and ignites in you a level of snark never seen outside of a Disney Channel original movie until that moment.
But take a step back.
Did they really mean to incite such a reaction?
It might be your own insecurities taking root in what they've said. Chalk it up to carelessness and note the intention was probably not to wound. If it was, however, meant to inflict pain or humiliation, GET AWAY! That is toxicity you do not need and you deserve better than that! Also, if you find yourself making these intentionally hurtful comments, take a breath and remember the age old adage: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Also, be on the look out for a post about this little problem we all encounter.

In short, people usually mean well but don't always take the time to look outside of themselves. But once the words leave their mouth, it's up to you to decide what you do with them.

Just a little something I've been thinking on. Let me know if this is a kind of post y'all like and would be interested in reading more of.

Wishing you a great weekend.

Cheers,
Hannah

a change of scene

Well, hello there!
It sure has been a long time, eh?

Yep. Yep, it sure has. But, I'm going to remedy that.
I've been hankering to start up this little ol' blog again, but with a much different approach because let's be honest here: the beauty route wasn't really working for me. Maybe it will come back a little later, but I want to focus on something a bit different this time around.

So sit back, grab a cup of tea, and stay tuned for an adventure.

I'll be seeing you a little later.

Cheers,
Hannah
